NAGPUR: The dream plan of transforming the state's second capital into a metropolis of the future may now get a definite shape. A leading United Kingdom-based infrastructure planning company Halcrow Group's Indian subsidiary has been appointed as a consultant to prepare blueprint for Nagpur Metro region development plan.
Halcrow India has been selected by the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) from nearly a dozen global corporates which had participated in bidding for the consultancy, said NIT trustee Kishore Kanhere. "Halcrow India whose bid of Rs 12 crore was the lowest was also found to be best qualified for the job given its track record and international standing as urban infrastructure planners,"' said Kanhere. "This is the first step towards realizing the dream of transforming Nagpur into a modern metro expanding it by a radius of 25km from the existing Nagpur Municipal Corporation limits," he said.
