BHUBANESWAR: Odisha villages are showing symptoms of desertification, with more and more people in rural belts being denied drinking water, the Census 2011 state household amenities and assets data released on Saturday reveals.
Around 38.5% families travel at least half a km to fetch drinking water in Odisha villages. The number of such families was 32.5% in 2001, which increased by 6% in 10 years. Director census operations Bishnupada Sethi gave a presentation on the data after it was released here. Read more
