BHUBANESWAR: Three months after achieving a landslide victory in the three-tier panchayat polls, the ruling BJD on Saturday gave the green signal to levy property tax in rural areas. It also decided to enact a new law, Odisha Right to Public Service Bill-2012, to make the state administration more accountable to citizens.
To begin with, the state government has decided to put 69 services under 10 different administrative departments (energy, housing and urban, school and mass education, commerce and transport, home, finance, revenue and disaster management, rural development, health and family welfare and women and child development) under purview of the proposed law, chief secretary Bijay Patnaik said following a state cabinet meeting chaired by CM Naveen Patnaik.
