SURAT : Work on the state's first Ballon Barage project based on rubber balloon technology in the downstream of river Tapi is moving at a snail's speed with the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) still awaiting a detailed report from the consultancy firm for the feasibility of the project for the past one-and-a-half-year.
The balloon barrage project, planned at an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore in the downstream of river Tapi near Rundh was envisaged during the tenure of former municipal commissioner S Aparna in 2010, considering the future water supply needs of the city, conservation of water and preventing tidal silting and pollution in the downstream of the river.
