INDORE: After the state earned the dubious distinction of feticide capital in the country, here is another shocker. The city has registered maximum number of abortions in the state. Ironically, the state holds the record after it has gone full blast with it's save girl child campaign last year. According to the recently released Annual Health Survey 2010-2011, the city ranks first in number of abortions in the age group 15-49 years.
The survey was conducted during the reference period of 2007-09 followed by a series of questions based on which data was compiled. Among 50 districts of the state, Indore has maximum percentage of abortions in the state with 9.9% of total abortions. 3.8% abortions took place in rural areas of the city and 11.5% abortion in urban areas of the city. The city is followed by Gwalior and Sagar with 7.0% and 6.1% abortion rate. Read more
