New Delhi : Over 10,000 orthopaedic surgeons have pledged to do 10,000 free surgeries to the tune of Rs. 25 crore this month. This they say, will be an annual practice to help all “not at fault” people in need of surgeries — meaning road accident victims. The Indian Orthopaedic Association announced its first- ever ‘Bone and Joints Day’ on August 4. This is a day when all orthopaedicians will come together to help trauma victims.
“National data shows that 1,60,000 people died on roads last year, and this is a highly underreported figure as covers only those who died on the spot, but what about those who sustained injuries and died in hospitals or homes days or months later?” said Dr. S. Rajasekharan, president, Indian Orthopaedic Association. Read more
